Seasonal Expectations: Summer vs. Winter
It is a reality of geography that the UK has shorter days in the winter. However, the annual yield remains incredibly strong.
Summer (April – September)
During the sunnier half of the year, your system will do the "heavy lifting," producing approximately 65-75% of your total annual energy. With up to 16 hours of daylight in June, your EdanPower system can generate a massive surplus of energy.
Winter (October – March)
In the winter, production drops due to the lower angle of the sun and shorter days. A typical 4kW system might produce 200-250 kWh in December compared to 500 kWh in July. However, because the UK's grid allows for "Smart Export Guarantees" (SEG), the excess money you make in the summer can effectively offset your winter energy costs.
| Month | Estimated Output (4kW System) | Sunlight Hours (Avg) |
|---|---|---|
| June | 500 kWh | 6.5 |
| September | 400 kWh | 4.5 |
| December | 200 kWh | 1.7 |
